Patch 7.37d — Balance Update

Released on August 12, 2025, this hotfix addresses late-game scaling issues introduced in 7.37c, rebalances three over-performing cores, and introduces a new tier-3 rune variant. Valve's team flagged Phantom Assassin and Mars as primary targets based on 5,000+ MMR data across all regions.

Key changes include a reduction to Phantom Assassin's Coup de Grâce damage multiplier (2.75x → 2.5x at max level), Mars's Arena of Blood duration shortened from 10s to 8s, and the addition of the "Wind Rune" which grants 120 movement speed and 40% spell resistance for 15 seconds. The item Bristleback's Quill Spray now deals 15% less damage at maximum stack but gains a 5% armor shred component per hit.

Phantom Assassin

Coup de Grâce multiplier reduced to 2.5x. Blur cooldown increased from 11s to 14s. Win rate at 7.37c: 54.2% (5,000+ MMR).

Mars

Arena of Blood duration reduced to 8s. God's Rebuke mana cost increased from 100 to 125. Win rate at 7.37c: 53.8% (5,000+ MMR).

New Rune — Wind

Grants 120 movement speed and 40% spell resistance for 15 seconds. Appears on one of the four rune spots per rotation, replacing the Haste Rune on alternating cycles.

Bristleback

Quill Spray max damage reduced by 15%. Each hit now applies 5% armor shred (stacks up to 3 times, 6s duration). Base armor increased by 1.

Current Meta Analysis — August 2025

Our analysts review the top 500 MMR ladder across all regions to identify pick-rate trends, win-rate anomalies, and emerging strategies. This month's report covers the post-7.37d landscape.

Offlane Dominance: Mars & Centaur

Despite the Arena of Blood nerf, Mars maintains a 51.3% win rate in the 5,000+ MMR bracket. Centaur Warrunner has climbed to 18.7% pick rate, the highest for any offlaner since 7.34. Analysts attribute this to the extended early-game phase caused by the new rune rotation.

Mid Lane: The Return of Tempo Heroes

Storm Spirit and Queen of Pain have surged past 22% combined pick rate. The Wind Rune's movement speed bonus synergizes with blink-heavy playstyles, enabling faster rotations and gank setups. Puck remains a staple at 14.1% pick rate with a 52.6% win rate.

Carry Meta: Split-Push vs. Teamfight

Terrorblade and Enigma lead the carry tier list. The new artifact slot rewards heroes with strong late-game scaling. Phantom Assassin's nerf has pushed her from #1 to #6 in carry win-rate rankings, opening space for Phantom Lancer and Lifestealer to climb.

Support Trends: Roaming Reimagined

The Wind Rune has fundamentally changed position 4 play. Spirits Breaker and Earth Spirit now see 15%+ pick rates as roaming supports. Wards and Observer durations being extended has made vision control more valuable than ever — Crystal Maiden and Witch Doctor are seeing renewed interest.

Itemization Shifts

BKB purchase timing has shifted earlier — average gold at first BKB dropped from 8,200 to 7,100. The new Echo Sabre of the Deep is seeing 9.4% pick rate across all positions. Daedalus has fallen out of favor for carries who rely on consistent damage over crit spikes.

Pro Scene Impact

In the ongoing DPC EEU Division I, Mars has been drafted in 78% of series. Team Spirit's offlane picks are influencing the meta toward durable, teamfight-oriented heroes. The Wind Rune's presence has made early-game skirmishes significantly more frequent, with average first-blood times dropping to 3:42.

This analysis is compiled from data by Dotabuff, OpenDota, and Stratz, covering the period of August 1–12, 2025. Next update scheduled for August 25.
